Fertilizer
- See also: Crop Growth Calendars
Fertilizer is used to support crop growth and assist in farming. Some fertilizer is used by placing it on tilled soil before placing the respective seeds; other fertilizer can be used after planting a seed, as well as during plant growth. Fertilizer affects all crops, including crops grown from Wild Seeds.
All fertilizer can be crafted, once the required level of Farming skill is reached. Fertilizer can also be purchased at Pierre's General Store year-round, or at The Oasis on specific days of the week.
Fertilizer remains in the soil all season. When the season changes, fertilizer normally disappears. However, there are two exceptions in which fertilizer will remain in the soil:
- If a multi-season crop (i.e., Ancient Fruit, Coffee Bean, Corn, Sunflower, or Wheat) is planted in the fertilized tile, and the new season is one in which the crop grows, the fertilizer will remain.
- Any crop planted in the greenhouse before its normal growing season will retain its fertilizer if the new season is one in which it normally grows.
Removing a crop with a Tool like the Pickaxe does not remove the fertilizer. Only one type of fertilizer may be used per soil tile.

Crop Quality Ratios
Note that quality is determined at the time of harvest, and not at the time of planting. For crops that produce multiples at harvest (i.e., Coffee Bean, Blueberry, Cranberries), Basic and Quality fertilizers affect only the first crop produced.
The Average Sell Price in the tables below indicates the average sell price of the harvest compared to the crop's base price (considering that Silver-quality crops are worth 25% more than their base price and Gold-quality crops are worth 50% more than their base price). For example, at level 10 farming with no fertilizer, a harvest of 500 parsnips (base price 35g) will on average sell for 20,781.25g (500 × 35g × 118.75%). Comparatively, adding super quality fertilizer to this same scenario will improve the harvest's sell price by 16% to an average of 24,106.25g (500 × 35g × 137.75%). Keep in mind that this 16% increase is not trivial once you account for the cost of seeds. In this example, buying the seeds from Pierre's for 20g each makes the net profit of the harvest go from 10,781.25g without fertilizer to 14,106.26g with super fertilizer, which is a 30.8% increase.

Fertilizer Cost
With the exception of Quality Fertilizer, crafting Fertilizer is always cheaper than purchasing it.
Each time you craft Speed-Gro or Deluxe Speed-Gro, you receive 5 fertilizers, though the "5" does not show up on the crafting menu until you have the required ingredients in inventory. Each time you craft Quality Retaining Soil, you receive 2 fertilizers, though crafting just one would still be cheaper than purchasing it.
The tables below compare the cost of crafting Speed-Gro or Deluxe Speed-Gro against purchasing them at the Oasis or Pierre's. The cost of crafting is the sell price of the constituent ingredients.

Note: Technically it is not possible to find iridium quality clam/coral if you have chosen the Tapper Profession.
Bug
As of PC v1.2.33, applying Speed-Gro or Deluxe Speed-Gro to a crop after planting has no effect on crop growth, even if applied immediately after planting a seed.
