Crab pots are floated on the shores of bodies of water (lakes, ponds, rivers, or the ocean) and primed with Bait in order to catch fish. Players with the Luremaster profession don't need to refill the pots with bait.
Crab pots can be crafted, or purchased for 1,500g at Willy's Fish Shop once you've reached fishing skill level 3. Three Crab Pots are the reward for completing the Crab Pot Bundle in the Fish Tank.
Harvesting a Crab Pot gives 5 Fishing experience points, even if trash is caught. Fish caught with Crab Pots also count towards the four fishing Achievements (Fisherman, Ol' Mariner, Master Angler, and Mother Catch).
The day after placing a crab pot, the following items can be found in it:
Anywhere
The following trash items can be obtained by putting a crab pot in any type of water, which includes the river, the lake and the ocean. They can be recycled into useful items.

The Recycling Machine is a crafted item that is used to turn trash (aside from the Joja Cola and Rotten Plant) into useful items. It takes 60m (1h) to process items.[1] The recipe is earned at Fishing level 4.
One Recycling Machine is the reward for completing the Field Research Bundle on the Bulletin Board.

Periwinkle | A tiny freshwater snail that lives in a blue shell. | 20g | 1/3 | 21.45% | Strange Bun Fish Stew Crab Pot Bundle |
Because these creatures sell for a low value and can be easily caught in large quantities, they are ideal choices to be turned into Quality Fertilizer; during the early game you may want to consider putting a handful of crab pots in your farm's ponds (where they are easily accessible to harvest daily) so that you can make fertilizer out of their catches and net a bit of fishing experience.
Quests
The Crab Pot may be used to catch a lobster for the Wanted: Lobster Quest.
