- This article is about the item. For the profession, see Tapper (profession).
The Tapper is a crafted item that can be placed on a tree to produce Maple Syrup, Oak Resin, or Pine Tar. It can also be placed on a Mushroom Tree to produce different mushrooms.
The Tapper can be removed from a tree by hitting it once with an axe or pickaxe. This leaves the Tapper intact and able to be reused.
If the Tapper is on a tree when it is struck by lightning, both the Tapper and its contents are destroyed.
Tappers placed on Maple Trees, Oak Trees, or Pine Trees continue to produce during Winter. Since Mushroom Trees turn to stumps in Winter, tappers placed on them produce nothing during that season.

The time of day when a tapper is placed (or when an existing tapper is harvested) has a pronounced inverse effect on the processing time. Every one hour delay in start time causes the tapper to be ready 40 minutes earlier (i.e., processing time is reduced by 100 minutes). Some specific values are provided in the table below. All tappers placed during the same hour (e.g., 7:00 to 7:50 am) will be done at the same time; the 40 minute jump happens at the start of a new hour (e.g., 8:00 am).
Internally, the game code explicitly subtracts the time of day from the processing time -- potentially with the intent of having a single fixed completion time for all tappers -- but the subtraction uses 100 minute hours instead of 60 minute hours.
One key implication is that players who wish to have pine tar available for making Speed-Gro at the end of the Egg Festival (10pm Spring 13) need to place their tappers either on Spring 7 or after 5 pm on Spring 8; tappers placed on the morning of Spring 8 will not be ready until the day after the festival.

History
- 1.4: Fixed issue that could leave trees unchoppable if tapper was removed in unusual fashion. Tappers can now be stacked in a player's inventory and in chests.
- 1.5: Added the Heavy Tapper.
